Captive insurance leader solving complex challenges.
While Zaw Win mainly focuses on captive insurance and risk retention groups, he also advises clients on general corporate and commercial issues, including transactional matters, corporate governance, and restructurings. Prior to joining DRM, Zaw spent 6 years as an associate in the New York office of Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP. He views his relationship with clients as a partnership of equals, with the knowledge and experience of each party contributing to the success of the project. With a taste for adventure and good food, he also enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and cooking delicious meals.

Experience
- Regularly advises captive insurance companies and risk retention groups on all aspects of their formation and operations including corporate governance, complex, multijurisdictional loss portfolio transfers, redomestications, and disputed withdrawals. Clients include Fortune 500 companies, non-profits, and small, family-run businesses. Industries include higher education, hospital systems, manufacturing and financial institutions.
- Counsel to the debtors (a large financial institution and its affiliates) for six years in chapter 11 cases arising out of the 2008 financial crisis, including: the negotiation, litigation and settlement of claims filed by Fannie Mae and various large banks and hedge funds; the sale and other disposition of significant real estate assets owned by the debtors; and the resolution of related adversary proceedings pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court.
